HONESTLY

Do you have any of these in your cupboard?

đŸȘž A badly matched foundation
💄 A lipstick you got 'influenced' into that washes you out
đŸȘ„ Something with hyaluronic acid or retinol or (god forbid!) both? And you're not sure why it’s not working its magic already?
🛍 An Instagram feed that bombards you with reels until you buy the product
🧿 An insecurity around your blackheads since the esthetician pointed it out
❄ A balancing act between wanting flawless "glass skin" like that influencer’s and embracing your uniqueness

When did beauty get so complicated?

We're building Bumble for beauty & personal care products

We’ve spoken to 836 people

65% said they’ve bought a product in the last 3 months alone that’s either been a dud or worsened their skin or hair. You can get a free trial of a SaaS tool, return/exchange fashion & electronics, and customise your furniture, but a bad purchase of a beauty product is a bad purchase you’re stuck with.Even when 97% of people read reviews, and watch hours and hours of Youtube and Instagram reels before buying.

The challenge is two-fold

I. Authentic reviews are deeply buried on the web

Most reviews on e-commerce platforms need more context (critical information such as skin type, skin concern, what were the other products used, etc) and detail (was the lipstick creamy? Long-wear? Fragrance-free? Or did the reviewer on Nykaa posted “wow great product, must buy” because the packaging looked fancy?). And then, a whole lot are bought (or bot) reviews. So we turn to content creators. We get detailed reviews but one person’s opinion at a time whose skin & hair may be very different from ours. Plus, plenty are paid. The beauty industry contributes to 24% of total complaints made to Advertising Council of India (for misleading advertising, 80% of them through influencers).

II. Brands are only here to sell

Brands like The Ordinary are revolutionary. Power-packed ingredients at affordable prices? Proven results? We’re all for that. However certain ingredients must not be used together in the same routine. Some need supplementary products. Some are great for other people, but won’t work for you—not in a YMMV kind of way but more of a you-have-dry-skin-so-this-could-never-work-for-you kind of way.Yet brands continue to make broad generic claims. All products are suitable for all skin types. All are “dermatologist-approved”. And all are long lasting upto “36 hours” and will give you glowing skin. We suspect these claims and yet we fall for them because there isn't a better answer.

Find your Tribe

At Honestly, we pair you with someone who not only shares your skin tone, skin type, age, gender, and climate conditions, but has also used the products you're interested in IRL.Unsure if a new sunscreen is right for you? Ask us. We'll connect you with someone who has the same skin type and climate conditions, and has tried many sunscreens!Want to know what that lipstick will actually look like on you? Ask us. We'll find you someone with the same skin tone to send you a photo of how it looks. All we ask? You return the favour when your skin / hair twins need help.
We believe that YOU are the expert of your skin, your hair and the products that you have used. With Honestly, make that micro-expertise count, earn some love, and some free full size products from us if you contribute a whole lot 😉

  • I am looking for products for ingrown hair

Questions that we can't answer, and must be answered by a medical professional:
